Resolving phone projection connection errors

If you cannot connect to phone projection using a registered Android phone or iPhone, use the following methods to fix the problem.

Resolving Android Auto connection errors

If you cannot connect an Android phone, delete all registered devices from the phone and the vehicle system before re-registering the phone.

Disconnecting Bluetooth from an Android phone

On the Android phone screen, go to [Settings] > [Connections] > [Bluetooth], press the settings icon next to the device to be disconnected, and press [Unpair].

Deleting devices from the vehicle system

On the home screen, go to [Settings] > [Phone connections] > [Phone projection settings] > [Android Auto] > [Delete], select the device to be deleted, and press [Delete] > [Yes].

  • To delete all registered devices, press [Mark all] > [Delete].
  • If you delete a registered device, all the content that was downloaded into the system from the device's contacts, call list, and SMS inbox will be deleted.

Re-registering devices to the vehicle system

On the home screen, press [Settings] > [Phone connections] > [Add] to register an Android phone again.

Once the Android phone is properly connected, phone projection changes to Android Auto on the home screen.

Resolving Apple CarPlay connection errors

If you cannot connect an iPhone, delete all registered devices from the phone and the vehicle system before re-registering the phone.

Disconnecting vehicles from an iPhone

On the iPhone screen, press [Settings] > [General] > [CarPlay], select the vehicle to be disconnected, and press [Forget This Car].

Disconnecting Bluetooth from an iPhone

On the iPhone screen, press [Settings] > [Bluetooth], press the Info button next to the device to be disconnected, and press [Forget This Device].

On the home screen, go to [Settings] > [Phone connections] > [Phone projection settings] > [Apple CarPlay] > [Delete], select the device to be deleted, and press [Delete] > [Yes].

Phone projection connection errors and troubleshooting

Phone projection does not work when I connect my phone using a USB cable.

Phone projection unsupported

Check if the phone to be connected supports the phone projection function on one of the following websites.

  • Android Auto: https://support.google.com/androidauto
  • Apple CarPlay: https://www.apple.com/kr/ios/carplay

Function deactivated

  • On the home screen, go to [Settings] > [Phone connections] and activate the connection function in [Phone projection settings].
  • Check if the phone projection function is blocked on the phone's app settings or block settings.

Improper phone condition or malfunction

  • Check if the phone’s battery level is too low. If the battery level is too low, the phone may not be recognized.
  • If the network connection is unstable, the phone projection function may not work properly.
  • If the phone is locked, unlock the phone.
  • Reset the phone and try to reconnect it.

A black screen appears when I run the phone projection function or while I am using the function.

Malfunction of the phone

  • Disconnect the USB cable from the phone and reconnect it.
  • Reset the phone and try to reconnect it.

I keep failing when I try to connect to phone projection wirelessly.

A system or phone error

  • On the home screen, go to [Settings] > [Phone connections] and delete all connected devices in [Phone projection settings].
  • Delete all connected devices from the phone and try reconnecting the phone.
